Hung Yin's Fancy Animal Carnival

October 03, 2016

Let’s face it, New York is not short on contemporary artists. In a somewhat saturated market, it’s refreshing to see an artist that creates from his heart and soul. Pop over to the Garment District to encounter the Fancy Animal Carnival, a collection of 11 folk inspired sculptures by Taiwanese artist, Hung Yin’s. Take a stroll down the Broadway Pedestrian Plaza that runs from 37th to 41st street to see them all.

In his first outdoor public installation in New York, Yin explores the ideas of culture, folk, and tradition. Using Eastern good luck charms as inspiration, the sculptures light up an otherwise monochromatic street. However, don’t let the industrial streets fool you, they are home to world class design powerhouses and rising star smaller boutique firms. The public installation embodies the eclectic energy of this little neighborhood, connecting the creative energy from inside of the buildings with the lively streets outside. Feeling hungry? Grab some street food for a quintessential New York moment, and enjoy your evening!
