Do your mind, your creativity, and your intellectual self a favor and go experience this exhibition. Housed in the three main floors of the New Museum, check out the the artists Pipilotti Rist’s first New York survey. The Swiss artist has been making art for over thirty years and has received international praise as a pioneer of video art and multimedia installation. Enrapture yourself in the impressive body of work that spans motifs such as feminism, transgression, and humanity. At the center of the show is a video named, “Ever Is Over All” (1997), which the Venice Biennale selected for outstanding achievement by a young artist. A woman gleefully smashes a car window with a club in an expression of female anarchy. In the midst of the aggressive act, a policewoman passes by and gives her a sign of approval. This moment is echoed in Beyonce’s video, Hold Up, which may be a homage to Pipilotti Rist’s video. The cultural importance of this show is grand, rarely does something so profound come around. Head downtown and prepare yourself for deep reflection and introspection.
